West Coast Eagles star midfielder Elliot Yeo has stepped forward to help end animal cruelty in WA.

West Coast Eagle Elliot Yeo and his dog Winston get excited for RSPCAs Cupcake DayThe premiership player, dual John Worsfold Medallist and dual All-Australian is now a champion for animals as well, joining RSPCA WA as an ambassador.

Yeo said he understood the importance of helping to raise awareness for animals in need.

‘I’m super passionate and eager to be on board as an RSPCA ambassador,’ Elliot said.

RSPCA WA CEO, Ben Cave, said he was thrilled to have the champion Eagle on board.

‘Elliot’s genuine love of animals and his desire to put an end to cruelty is plain to see,’ Ben said.

‘He approached us looking for this opportunity, wanting to help get important animal welfare messages out to the people of Western Australia and we’re really grateful for his passion and commitment to the cause.

‘We have already talked about some exciting opportunities over the next 12 months but today, Elliot and his Border Collie Winston are helping us call on people to bake a change in the fight against animal cruelty for this year's annual Cupcake Day fundraiser.’

The sweetest day of the year is officially on Monday 16 August, but participants can host a bake sale in their homes, schools or workplaces any day next month.

‘RSPCA WA can only continue its work saving animals in need thanks to the community’s support for events like Cupcake Day,’ Ben said.

‘We rely on animal lovers to fund around 90 per cent of our work rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming some of the State’s most vulnerable animals.’

Funds raised through Cupcake Day will help keep RSPCA WA’s shelter doors open and inspectors on the road investigating animal cruelty complaints.
