Most Western Australians are worried that not enough is being done about animal welfare. We are immensely grateful for the funds we receive from Government and our generous supporters but it is not enough to do the job the community expects from us.

We need the Government to invest $20m over the next four years – just $2 for each of us. We believe it’s a small price to pay for the protection the community expects.

$2 is a small price to pay to rehabilitate and rehome large animals.

RSPCA WA handles many animal welfare cases involving horses and other large livestock but we don’t have anywhere to house the animals we rescue.

Outsourced agistment is expensive and hard to find. It can cost the RSPCA up to $10,000 to board a single horse during its recovery, with the costs of veterinary treatment and care on top of that. We know from past experience that those costs are greatly reduced if we have our own facilities.

Our vision is to build and operate a new All Animal Rehabilitation and Rehoming Centre to enable us to care for larger animals in a more efficient and economical way.

This would be a multi-purpose centre, offering:

  • educational facilities
  • vocational training for people wanting a career with animals
  • scope to develop new revenue streams to take some pressure off our long-term operating budgets
  • a social enterprise, offering trusted boarding services for cats, dogs and horses, to generate income and reduce reliance on public funding.

The project depends on a capital investment of $5m and would be built on land already earmarked for a proposed RSPCA facility in Perth’s southern suburbs. Of course it also then requires additional operational funding each year.
