Donate items to help animals

There are a number of items that are always needed to help animals recover from the trauma of cruelty and neglect.

Thank you for helping these animals by donating items that will help in their rehabilitation, so that they can find permanent loving homes.

Here you'll find information about:

  • What useful items are needed
  • The items that we can't use
  • Information about food donations
  • Larger items on our wish-list
  • Where to drop donated items.

Donated items are used:

  • in the Shelter to make animals comfortable
  • to provide enrichment for animals
  • to provide supplies for foster carers in their homes
  • by Inspectors to help animals in the field
  • and in the vet surgery.

Useful items that are needed

The following items are always gratefully accepted:

  • Newspapers
  • Shredded paper - the long strips only (sorry, we can't use the short chopped/confetti paper)
  • Towels (clean)
  • Blankets (clean)
  • Plastic containers and crates to store dry food
  • Pet bowls - all sizes
  • Pet beds - all sizes
  • Dog collars and harnesses (these can be ordered from Dogaloo and sent directly to us - use code RSPCAWA on checkout)
  • Feeding nipples for puppy and kitten formula - available here (Small and mini sizes most useful).
  • Dog coats in cooler months (preferably for medium to large dogs)
  • Toys and enrichment (Kongs, slow-feeder bowls, puzzle toys, etc.)
  • Cat carriers
  • Dog carriers
  • Dog crates
  • Baby gates (we use them for puppies)
  • Seresto flea collars for all dog sizes
  • Fly repellent cream and antiseptic white healer cream
  • Worm treatments for dogs of all sizes

RSPCA WA's Amazon wish-list

To make it easier, we have created a wish-list on Amazon. These items can be purchased by you and delivered directly to the RSPCA Animal Care Centre where they'll go a long way to making a life-changing difference for animals in need.

Our BIG wish-list

We're putting it out to the universe! We could really use the following items, but our budget just doesn't stretch. If you or your business would like to help animals in a substantial way, please consider the following:

  • 320L-350L top-mount fridge-freezer (freezer on top), for use in the vet clinic to store medications
  • Industrial vacuum cleaner
  • Pallet jack or forklift to help with shifting pet food.

If you would like to donate one of these larger items, please contact us for specs of the items we have selected. You can reach us on (08) 9209 9300, or use the contact form.

RSPCA WA does not accept pillows, duvets, and some other donated items.Items that we CAN'T use

To protect the health and safety of the animals in our care and our team members, and to limit wastage, we do not accept the following items.

  • Trampoline-style dog beds
  • Pillows or cushions (feather or synthetic)
  • Pillow slips and sheets (fitted or flat)
  • Doonas, duvets or padded bed covers
  • Mattresses
  • Dirty, soiled blankets, towels or clothing
  • Damaged or broken items
  • Magazines or glossy paper
  • Large amounts of fresh produce.

Please do not leave these items on site as it costs us money to dispose of them correctly. That money could be better spent helping animals.

RSPCA WA Op Shops and Reloved stores have ceased trading. As a result, we no longer accept items for resale in these stores. Please consider donating your preloved clothing, homewares, books, CDs, DVDs and bric-a-brac to other charities who support animals in need. Please do not leave such items in our donations area as it costs us money to dispose of them correctly.

Can we donate food?

Royal Canin provides all the food for dogs and cats in the shelter and foster care. However, if you have food to donate, this can be used by Inspectors while they're on the road, helping animals and people who may need assistance to care for their pets. Donated food is also used in our Community Outreach programs and Community Action Days.

RSPCA WA can accept some food donations to help people and animals in the communityDonated food should be new, un-opened and within the best-before or use-by date.

The food we can use:

  • Dry biscuits for dogs and cats
  • Puppy biscuits
  • Small cans of cat food
  • Dog and cat treats
  • Chicken pellets
  • Rabbit and Guinea Pig food

Where do I take my donations?

You can drop your donations off at the RSPCA Animal Care Centre in Malaga 7 days a week. Gates are open from 8am-5:30pm on weekdays, and from 10am-4:30pm on weekends. We're closed on public holidays.

The donation bins are located at the first building on the right hand side when you drive in. Large bins are available for blankets, towels and other goods. If your items don't fit in there, please place them in the picketed area under cover. The area is under camera surveillance, and the items are cleared regularly.

The RSPCA Animal Care Centre is located at 108 Malaga Dr, Malaga, just off Reid Highway.

Thank you so much for helping animals in need.
