How it works

By donating your Containers for Change refund to RSPCA WA, you’re helping rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals across Western Australia, while also protecting the environment and wildlife.

Containers for Change makes it as easy as 1, 2, 3:

  1. Collect eligible drink containers
  2. Return them to a refund point to earn 10c per container
  3. Donate what you earn directly to RSPCA WA using RSPCA WA’s Scheme ID – C10264579

By choosing to donate, you’re helping provide shelter, medical care and love for animals across WA.

How to donate your containers to RSPCA WA

There are three ways to donate your Containers for Change refund to RSPCA WA:

Option 1: Use our Scheme ID
Enter the RSPCA WA Scheme ID – C10264579 – when returning your containers to donate your refund instantly.

Option 2: Bag drop
Use a bag drop facility and tag your containers with the RSPCA WA Scheme ID – C10264579.

Option 3: Set up ongoing donations
Link your Containers for Change account to RSPCA WA to automatically donate every time you recycle.
Tip: This is a great option for schools, workplaces, and community groups wanting to make a regular impact.

FAQs

Which containers are eligible?

You can claim a refund for most drink containers between 150ml and 3 litres.

Eligible containers:

  • Aluminium cans (soft drink, beer, energy drinks)
  • Glass bottles (soft drink, beer, flavoured beverages)
  • Plastic bottles (water, juice, soft drinks)
  • Liquid paperboard cartons (juice boxes, flavoured milk)
  • Steel cans

Ineligible containers:

  • Plain milk containers
  • Cordial bottles
  • Wine and spirit bottles (expected to be included from mid-2026)

Look for the ’10c refund’ label to confirm eligibility.

How much can I earn per container?

You will receive 10 cents per eligible container returned through the scheme.

Should I leave the label on?

Yes, you should leave the labels on your containers so the automated refund point scanners can read the barcodes and verify the refund eligibility.

Where can I return my containers?

There are many collection points across WA. Click here to find out where to return your eligible containers or drop them off at the RSPCA WA Animal Care Centre in Malaga and we’ll gratefully process them on your behalf.
