Many animals in our care have been rescued from cruelty or neglect, but thanks to the dedication of our veterinarians, behaviour support team and other shelter staff, each animal listed for adoption has been rehabilitated and is ready for a loving home.

If you come across an animal you think might be a good fit, visit our Animal Care Centre in Perth to meet your potential new companion. Walk-ins are welcome during our business hours on Tuesdays-Saturdays, or by appointment on Sundays.
Our friendly team will talk you through the animal’s history and needs, help assess if they’re the right fit, and introduce you to them.
The meet-and-greet process is a little different for each type of animal.

Once you’ve found the right pet, it’s time to welcome them into your family. Before you take them home, our team will guide you through the process of completing the ownership paperwork and processing your adoption fee to make it official.
You’ll also receive a detailed take-home information pack via email, including a full vet treatment history, vaccination records and microchip details (where applicable).

For some animals with specific needs, we may offer a two-week trial adoption period to help ensure they are the right fit for your home. This will be discussed with you if it is an option for the animal you are adopting.
The first few weeks are an important adjustment period for your new pet. With patience, consistency and support, they will begin to feel safe and settle into the family.

If you’re adopting a dog, please bring your existing dog(s) for a meet-and-greet.
Other animals are not introduced prior to adoption to minimise stress.
Yes, you’re welcome to return as many times as needed, however someone else may adopt the animal you are considering in the meantime, so it’s best not to leave it too long if you’re seriously considering adoption.
If you find an animal who’s a suitable fit but need time to consider, you can make an in-person request to place an animal on hold for up to 24 hours. Availability cannot be guaranteed after that time.

Adopting a pet is a long-term commitment. If your circumstances change and you’re unable to continue caring for your pet, RSPCA WA will accept them back into our care, but refunds are not provided.
The only exception to this is for official trial adoptions for animals facing special circumstances, where the animal is returned within the 2-week trial period.
