Christmas has arrived early for Monty, who overcame horrific third-degree burns to find his forever family recently.  

The brave pup was rescued by the RSPCA with injuries to around 30 per cent of his body. But, with expert care and lots of TLC, he made a full recovery and was able to find a home just in time for the holidays.

Now 10-month-old Monty is helping other neglected animals get their Christmas wish as the face of RSPCA’s Guardian Angel fundraiser,  which invites people to watch over a homeless fur friend for the holidays.

RSPCA WA Inspector Florence Maude says when she first rescued Monty he was absolutely petrified, and in so much pain that she was worried he might not pull through.

‘This poor boy had suffered terrible oil burns during an accident at home and, because his owner could not afford to pay for vet treatment, Monty was surrendered to the RSPCA,’ she says.  

‘I could tell Monty’s injuries were serious and infection had set it, so I raced him to a nearby vet, where I was told he needed surgery immediately.  

‘It was a long and tricky procedure, but Monty was so brave.  Once he was back at the Animal Care Centre and on the mend, he became like a different dog – so cuddly, happy and cheeky.

‘I’ve been in this job for seven years, and seeing Monty heal and go on to find the most wonderful home in time for the holidays has  been one of the most heart-warming experience I’ve had.

‘He’s the perfect little ray of hope for other animals who are still waiting for their second chance.’

Fundraising Team Leader Marnie Thomson says Christmas is one of the busiest times of the year for RSPCA WA.

‘Sadly, hundreds of animals are expected through our doors over the coming months,’ she says.

‘By becoming a Guardian Angel, people can pledge much-needed support for one of these animals in need over Christmas, providing everything they need to recover and prepare for their new life.’

Monty’s new owner, Cristian Mostaccio of Baldivis (pictured with wife Natalia) says the cheeky Jack Russel cross has already ‘taken control of the house’.  

‘He loves to run around the backyard hiding his toys, my tools and our shoes as well,’ he says.

Cristian says Monty is being utterly spoilt, with three beds throughout the house and plenty of time relaxing on the couch watching TV with the family.

Natalia says Monty makes her heart sing.

'He's just like an angel who came to our lives to heal our broken hearts. Love and massive doses of cuddles are his favourite things in the world,' she says.
