The chain exchange

Rogz logoThe Chain Exchange is an RSPCA initiative that encourages dog owners to exchange their choke chain or prong collar for a humane flat collar provided free of charge by our Community Outreach and Education team.

Many dog owners believe the choker-style collar is an effective training tool and simply don’t realise the physical and emotional damage they cause.

Prong collars (also known as a pinch or constriction collar) are made of metal and are designed to tighten around a dog’s neck whenever pressure is applied. This can cause possible damage to the windpipe, nerves and other tissues.

RSPCA Australia is opposed to the use of dog prong collars due to the potential risk of injury, pain and suffering and because other more humane training methods are available.

The Chain Exchange is promoted at our Community Action Days, and our purpose-built exchange box can be found in the Reception at the RSPCA Animal Care Centre in Malaga when not in use by the Community Outreach and Education team.

Our special thanks to Rogz for providing humane flat collars free of charge for the RSPCA Chain Exchange.
