  • Volunteer Criteria

Volunteer Criteria

There are a number of volunteering criteria that our volunteers must be able to meet to ensure the happiness and welfare of our animals, as well as for your own personal safety and wellbeing. These include:

  • All volunteers for all roles must be 18 years or older. (Unfortunately, due to workplace health and safety regulations, and child protection laws, we cannot accept volunteers aged under 18 years.)
  • You must be physically fit and able to undertake the role you apply for.
  • You must be able to work independently, without supervision.
  • You must be able to make quick and rational decisions.
  • Volunteer roles in the RSPCA Animal Care Centre require a high level of commitment. You will be required to commit to two regular shifts per fortnight for a period of six months.
  • We strive to make your volunteer experience as positive and enriching a possible. You can help us by showing commitment towards your role. For example, by letting us know if you can’t make your shift so alternate arrangements can be made.
  • You may require a National police clearance and possible medical examination.
  • You must agree to follow all staff instructions.

We strongly encourage you to visit the site you prefer getting involved at, before you sign up. This will give you an idea of distances and possible transport modes, which might be a hindrance to your ongoing volunteer commitment.
