Thank you for considering to adopt a rescued animal, giving them a second chance at a happy life with you and your family. Here are a few things that will help you in the process:

How we help you find your perfect fur-ever friend

RSPCA WA tries to match the right animal with the right owner. We offer personalised advice at our shelter about which animal best suits a person’s lifestyle and personality.

Prior to adoption, prospective owners can spend time with the animal in one of our ‘meet and greet’ spaces. Every animal has a unique adoption process to ensure a happy adoption outcome for the entire family.

Dogs: Potential adopters will be asked to meet dogs in an exercise yard for at least 30 minutes to allow you to interact with your potential new pet. Prospective owners will be required to bring their other dog(s) and everyone who is going to be living with the dog for a meet and greet at the shelter to ensure suitability with the entire family. Dog to dog meet and greets can be scheduled once you have come to meet the dog available for adoption. Unfortunately, if either dog has prior guarding concerns, they may not be eligible for consideration.

Cats: Potential adopters will be asked to meet cats in their cat-condo. We prefer not to remove cats from their enclosure as this causes unnecessary stress. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate cat meet and greets.

Rabbits: Potential adopters will be asked to meet rabbits in their enclosure or exercise pen. Potential adopters are not required to bring their rabbit in for a meet and greet, however we offer detailed advice regarding bonding your new rabbit.

The adoption process doesn’t end once an animal leaves one of our shelters. Our staff provide advice to new owners on general pet care including dietary requirements, and are also available for further advice in the days, weeks and months following adoption, as the animal settles into their new home.

For further information, or to speak to our expert staff and volunteers about finding your new best friend, please call us on (08) 9209 9323, or drop by the RSPCA Shelter during business hours.
