More than 300 dogs in Western Australia and the Northern Territory have tested positive to ehrlichiosis since the tick-borne disease was first detected in the middle of last year.

The disease has now also been detected in South Australia, Queensland and New South Wales.

Last month, farmonline reported one in 10 Australian dogs who have so far contracted ehrlichiosis have died.

The rapid spread and high mortality rate have led to calls for vigilance by dog owners.

More information about ehrlichiosis and how to prevent it can be found on the RSPCA Knowledgebase.
